CUTEST KIDS AT WEDDINGS: Del Sol Photography

You love kids. You have kids. Your sister has six kids. Everyone has kids. You are totally cool with everyone bringing their kids to your wedding.

BUT

CUTEST KIDS AT WEDDINGS: Del Sol Photography

Weddings tend to be formal events and even if you are not a super formal gal, you probably don’t want your nephews having an epic sword fight during your first dance. (If I am super off base and you totally would love this, you can find some great play swords here.)

CUTEST KIDS AT WEDDINGS: Del Sol Photography

To prevent the adorable chaos that can turn into the kind of chaos that leads to wedding fails, there are a few measures you can take if you are going to allow kids at your wedding.

Here are three to get you going!

  1. Set the expectation that the parents of the kids are in charge of their own kids. This may seem silly, but it isn’t a bad idea to spread the word that while their kids our welcome, parents should remember to keep an eye on their own kids. A lot of parents have limited nights out and may want to take advantage of not having to pay a babysitter and having so many adults that can be their eyes while they relax a little.
  2. In the same breath, hire a sitter or find a volunteer or two to run kid activities during the reception. These people will be less in charge of the kids as they are in charge of manning the kid tables or and games you have for the kids to play. You don’t need a ton, just a few to keep those little hands busy and safe while your dad gives a toast or two. Think craft table and bean bag games!
  3. Have a mini kid menu. Don’t waste the delicious and expensive food on little tummies that won’t touch it. Have some mac and cheese and chicken nugget option specific for the kids.

Wedding Bird Embroidery by Pixiecraft Handmade, via Flickr

You can find me on Etsy! Just click the photo and we will take you to the shop!

An Embroidery Wedding

Embroidery. It can be something done over the top and artsy or can be really delicate and just lovely. Either way, we at wedding collectibles are kind of falling in love with embroidery on your wedding day. If your like what? That stuff on my grandmother’s pillow? That can’t be pretty at a wedding. Let’s just say – and we mean this in the nicest way possible – you are just dead wrong.

Take a look. You won’t be disappointed!

The Wedding Dress

Meadow Bustier Wedding Gown... women boho by jadadreaming on Etsy

Even with the embroidery on this dress being more traditional in style and patch worked ,it looks like it is exactly the way it was meant to be. You could actually probably do something similar with your bridal handkerchief. With this style, it would be easy to include a little something old, borrowed, new and even blue! One thing we love, is while the embroidery definitely makes this dress different, it doesn’t overpower the dress and it is still very bridal. For example, this dress was posted in the Jadadreaming etsy shop, whose designer Jada, makes custom pieces. If you like this dress, her work might just be the perfect fit for you!

A Splash of Colour | the Embellishment Bridal Fashion Trend

Next, the embroidery in this gown flows so perfectly, the dress just wouldn’t exist without it. Again, a gown with embroidery like this really just adds a little personality and beauty. It is like the cherry on top to a gown that says, “I am getting married. I am in love.” This gown was the jewel of a western-inspired wedding featured on bride.com and is a Needle and Thread gown from Net-A-Porter.

Even if you don’t like embroidering, you can still take embroidery hoops and use them for cool wedding decor. Attach lace to them and hang...

A lot of blogs suggest an embroidery wedding as part of a boho wedding theme, which we are sure works great, but it isn’t the only style it works for. In fact, with the large variety of styles open, embroidery really can be infused into any wedding! Whether its a backdrop or table numbers, a touch of embroidery can really add some whimsy.

Kind of like it captures the idea of wish…

Elegant Bridal Shower Ideas

Here's a close up picture of the beautiful paper flower backdrop I installed this past weekend. For those of you who asked, the backdrop is a faux boxwood hedge wall rented from a local rental company. Since the hedge wall had grids (you can see it up close) on them I used "S" shaped metal hooks that I made using thick green floral wire to hang the flowers on the wall. . . . . #paperflower #paperart #paperartist #papercraft #handmade #silhouette #silhouettecameo #paperflowers #papercraftin...

Your bridal shower is one of your first opportunities to set the tone of your wedding. So if you are planning a wedding dripping in elegance, your bridal shower should set the stage. For example, think about the contradiction of having a casual country bridal shower and a black tie diamond adorned wedding. It would be confusing wouldn’t it? Now, it can’t outshine the wedding and should be a toned down version. So if you are wanting something elegant, here are some beautiful elegant bridal shower ideas just for you!

Keep the Colors Simple

Pink and Green Wedding | Elegant & Whimsical Wedding | Sarah Gawler Photography | Bridal Musings Wedding Blog

Keep the colors clean and simple, is an easy way to set an elegant vibe. Now, the colors don’t have to be light, but I would suggest staying away from anything too bright.

Fit for Royal-tea

A little different to our traditional hen dos, the bridal shower is a relatively new arrival to the UK from across the pond. If you want to enjoy a relaxed time with your family and friends and allow everyone to meet before the wedding, this is the ideal

One thing to emphasize with a bridal shower, is that it can be a more playful elegance. These beautifully frosted cookies are really reminiscent of a fancy and proper tea party. Though, you can get a little fancier if you want to!

Want a Quick, Easy, Elegant Dessert -This no fail cranberry panna cotta recipe is an Italian dessert that you can make at least two days ahead.

8 Ideas for Your Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue

8 Ideas for Your Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue

Something Old

Image result for this is us kate wedding

1. When deciding on something old, first look to those in your family that are important to you. This became such an apparent reason behind why something old became part of this wedding tradition as we all (if your not you should) watch This is Us‘s Kaite-girl trying to find something of her dad’s to walk down the aisle with her on her wedding day. For Kate Pearson, it might have been a case of finding balance in feeling grief and letting go, but it’s more than understandable to want her something old to stand in for her dad. So if someone is missing from your wedding, maybe this little tradition can help fill that gap (at least a little bit).

2. Another great option is a family heirloom. Many families even pass down specific things for their brides to wear. It can be something big like the wedding dress, or small like a bracelet or a tiara. Either way, it fits the bill of something old, and with a lot of meaning behind it!

Something New

For your something new, you will want to think about the new family you are creating. It’s not just, “oh I bought this dress new or this hair clip is new”. Really, that’s just no fun and not in the spirit of the tradition!

3. A great ideas would be to have a monogrammed handkerchief with the initials of your new name. You can find a great one here!

4. Or if you aren’t changing your name, then you could do something like have a brand new key made of your first home together as a married couple that could be added to your bouquet or even sown into your dress.

Something Borrowed

This is another one that you can have some sentimental fun with.

5. A bride with a group of best gal friends or sisters might share an item from each of their weddings as their something borrowed.

6. Borrow something from a person or couple whose relationship you admire. This could be something from their wedding or something they consider special to their relationship. For example, you could “borrow” their song for your wedding dance!

Something Blue

something blue heart on back of dress

Now, something blue is supposed to represent the purity of the marriage and the promise of fidelity. While anything could be your blue item, choosing something that really works with what it is symbolizing actually will add more meaning to your wedding.

7. A great option for this would be to add it to your wedding ring. Of course if you are dead set against colored gemstones in your wedding rings, then this won’t work. But if not, it really is a very meaningful option. Many jewelers will even inlay a gemstone on the inside of the wedding band. Depending on how thing your band is, this could be an amazing something blue!

8. Another way to go would be to add the blue to your wedding dress! Some brides might make it a real focal point, but one of our favorites is when it is used as stitching to add in a message on the bodice or train of the dress. Some brides have done hearts or names, other’s quotes or a line of their vows. No matter what you choose, it tends to be pretty special

3 Ways to Make your Bridal Shower Fun

$

When we say fun – we mean FUN! Bridal showers are a perfect example of how you can either feel more stressed or more like you are enjoying being engaged. SO if you are thinking about trying to have an out of the box bridal shower, take a look at these three tips!

How to Make it FUN

Consider Co-ed

A great way to inject a more playful vibe is to open up the guest list to both men and women. This is especially nice because it means the groom get’s to participate. Plus, it creates opportunities for more game ideas that are bound to get some laughs. There’s just something about having both genders in attendance that makes people more competitive come game time!  Also, can you imagine the silliness that will ensue when you dad is the one being wrapped in his toilet paper wedding dress?

Think of YOU

If you want to have a fun bridal shower, then make the bridal shower about things you like. If you want a super formal bridal shower, that’s great. But if you want people laughing and a little activity running around, infusing your unique interests into the PARTY can make it AMAZING.

For example, if you and your fiance are avid football fans, take your bridal shower outdoors and actually play football! Serve burgers and hot dogs, and just enjoy the sweaty fun. Or if you don’t have an active group attending, just go all out with a fun theme that inspires everything from decor to games to food. You’re a Harry Potter nerd? Why not serve butter beer and have a magical time?

Let it go!

Weddings and all the surrounding planning and sub events can be so so stressful. So this tip really goes for everything, but can be applied to making your bridal shower more fun. LET GO! You will plan and coordinate and budget, but on the day of any of these wedding events, the moment it starts all those logistics are no longer your problem. If your worried about running out of food ruining your good mood, put someone else in charge of worrying about it for you! Your maid of honor is perfect for this.Or an even planner can take the job on! Either way, on the day of, that stuff just isn’t your problem!

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

A great way to infuse your wedding with playfulness is to let your design be inspired by a theme. Of course, you want to avoid your wedding theme causing a look of an 8 year old’s birthday party, but done right, a wedding theme can lead to some of the most spectacular wedding styles.

Today we are looking at the classic and whimsical tale of Alice in Wonderland. This story may not be a romantic story, but it’s magical whimsy really captures the feeling that is falling in love!

For this wedding theme, we encourage brides to be INSPIRED versus directly pulling exact images from the classic tale.

What do we mean by this?

  • Dress your bridesmaids in pretty light blue dresses, but not an Alice costume with headband and all.
  • Your flower girl could wear a light pink striped dress to infer to the Cheshire cat, but no need to have Cheshire grins floating in the trees.
  • Have the groom’s wardrobe include a classic pocket-watch (bonus points if it’s a family heirloom), but nothing over-sized and goofy.
  • Playing cards would be great place cards, but there is no need to make them look like they can walk off the table on their own.
  • Splattered red white roses can be fun, but perhaps not as the centerpiece of every table and definitely NOT over-sized.

Another good idea would be to include subtle accessories that hint at the world of Alice in Wonderland without being from the story at all.

Below are a few products from our shop that would make a great addition to your Alice in Wonderland Wedding.

Bring Fantasy Cake Toppers to your Enchanted Forest Wedding

Want to bring a little bit of the fantasy that is in your love story into your wedding? Look no further! Check out our top 5 fantasy cake toppers!

Number One: Rose and Pearls Fantasy Fairy Wedding Cake Topper

This fantasy cake topper makes the number one slot partially because it is what most people think of when they think of a fantasy themed wedding. A beautiful fairy and her knight in a love locked embrace floating on the cloud of romance and white roses; what more could you ask for?

Number Two: Arthur & Guinevere Pewter Cake Topper

You may not have the fate of Camelot resting on your shoulders or be facing the test of being able to pull the sword from the stone, BUT that doesn’t mean your love isn’t a tale for the ages! And look, the way they hold hands makes the negative space into a heart!! It’s kind of the perfect fantasy cake topper is it not?

Number Three: Skulls Groom Kissing Bride Wedding Cake Topper

Are you a Gothic bride, want to celebrate the Day of the Dead, or just really emphasize that till death you do you NOT part? Then this skeletal bride and groom is for you! We have several options within this theme (Check out the Fantasy and Gothic cake toppers tab!), but this is one of our favorites because it is modeled after the traditional bride and groom, and yet still totally unique.

Number Four: Fairy Tale Dreams Castle Cake Topper

Complete with the inscribed “And they lived happily ever after…” this fairy tale castle cake topper will look great at your fantasy wedding!

Number Five: Rose Heart Pewter Cake Topper

This is one of our less obvious fantasy cake toppers. Entwined vines and roses create a simple heart shape that will add the perfect note atop your fantasy wedding cake.

Review: Wedding Wire’s Color Palette Generator

Picking your wedding colors can be a daunting task, so when we find something that might make that a little bit easier for our brides, we want to share it! Wedding Wire ( an Wedding Planning sight with access to vendors, inspiration, and planning tools) has recently come out with a color palette generator. How exciting is that?

How to Use It

The tool is super easy. You start by clicking on if you want spring, summer, fall or winter colors. They even have cute little icons to go with it. With summer coming up, we chose summer.

Step two takes you to four primary color options. This is the base or main color for your wedding. Whether you use this tool or not, we recommend choosing a base color and one or two accent colors. This will help you create a cohesive look.

After you select your primary color the tool will then prompt you to create an account in order to see your generated color palettes. This is pretty typical of free tools like this and it 100% doesn’t hurt. Your already planning your wedding, might as well get access to other planning tools to help you along the way.

Once you make your account, the tool will take you to six color combo options. This is when you pick your favorite to act as the jumping point for your whole wedding look!

We selected the navy, mint, and coral combo. And that’s it. The generator give you the option to print your color palette, but otherwise you’re done! Unless you want to start over and start again!

What We Think About It

The generator is still in it’s beta stage. This is encouraging because while we LOVE the concept and the ease of the tool, but there is something left to be desired in the color options. However, we do believe that even the basic options can be a good launch to hone your vision. Since Wedding Wire also features wedding inspirations, we also think it would be great if they linked in wedding inspirations in your chosen color palette. This way you can see it really come to life. It may be the direction they plan to go, but it does seem like it could be tricky to make a reality.

Overall, we think the tool is a fun idea and are hopeful!

Do you think a Color Palette Generator could be helpful for your wedding planning?

When we say fun – we mean FUN! Bridal showers are a perfect example of how you can either feel more stressed or more like you are enjoying being engaged. SO if you are thinking about trying to have an out of the box bridal shower, take a look at these three tips!

Old new borrowed blue wedding tradition for you

Old. New. Borrowed. Blue.

We’ve learned that the happiest brides are ones that find ways to make conventional wedding traditions represent their personal style, their family, and their personality. One of our favorite traditions that any bride can have fun with is wearing “something borrowed and something blue”.

This English tradition has been bringing brides good luck and fortune since the 1800s. The original rhyme is “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe”. However, what began as a way to bless the bride with good luck and fidelity is now also a way to create timeless keepsakes and show some creativity.

How real brides are making traditions their own!

In Hawaii, one bride went beach-combing before her sunset wedding. On the beach she found a white rock and decided to use it as her something borrowed.  She placed the small rock in her bouquet for the ceremony. Then, before she left she tossed it back to the sea.

Wedding Traditions for You

Jessica Belew of Bremerton, WA, had some precious items as her good luck charms. She wrapped a handkerchief around her bouquet that “had [her] name and wedding date embroidered in blue [and] had the appliques from [her] mom’s veil stitched on.” It is now a treasured family heirloom that she hopes her daughter will use one day.

Another more unconventional bride made her family and friends’ smiles widen when she walked down the aisle with a borrowed tennis racket from her new mother-in-law in her bouquet. That’s one way to show a family’s history of sports!

Whatever you do, make wedding traditions you!

Culture, family, personality, and religion can all play a big part in the wedding planning process. While juggling it all can be stressful, we hope you’ll remember to have fun and look for unique ideas that make your wedding day memorable.

Whether it is a nerdy groom’s cake, a sapphire ribbon sewn into your dress, skydiving in your wedding attire, or memorable thank you cards there is a variety of options to make your special day less conventional.

hire a photographer and do a fun engagement shoot. The fall is open to a lot of warm and fun themes, like fall festivals, harvests, and if you want to really get into it Halloween!

If you’re having a fall wedding, be sure to have fun with your engagement announcement with an autumn themed shoot!

Okay some of the “cons”…

autumn wedding Seattle

PC: Style Me Pretty

Rain. Rain. Go. Away.

While we hope you won’t let rain deter you from having an Autumn wedding, it’s a possibility, and something you should consider when selecting your venue. No one wants to be rained out on their wedding day!

There are however a lot of ways to work around the weather. Look at this couples fall Seattle wedding where it rains all the time!

Just know that if you are set on hosting an outdoor wedding, then you need to be sure any out of town guest are aware of appropriate attire for the season.

Plus, you may need to budget for tents or guest umbrellas too for your ceremony and reception.

Holiday Traffic Jam

You may also be dealing with the holidays. Whether you celebrate holidays or not, they can effect the planning of your wedding.

For example, this can be a more expensive time of year for out of town guests to travel. You’ll want to send them save-the-dates early to give them plenty of time to coordinate time off and to book their travel.

You should also expect a few “no-shows” since it is a busy time of the year for people and they may not be able to take the extra time off for your wedding.

In case you couldn’t tell…

We’d say the pros have it! Fall is an amazing time for your special day! With the rich colors, textures, and yummy flavors of the season, your guests will be swept away with the spirit of romance and festivity.

The 4 Best Design Tips for Wedding Centerpieces

Decorating the reception tables is one of our favorite parts of the wedding design process because the creativity put into the table settings and wedding centerpieces are the design details that guests will most remember.

The reception table is where your guests will sit down to break bread with each other and enjoy the remainder of the happy wedding festivities.

When it comes time to “set the table” the key to remember when designing a centerpiece is balance.

Design tips | Wedding Centerpieces

Choosing wedding centerpieces that are “chin height” elevates your guests’ conversations to just the right volume signaling to the room that you are all having a great time!

The 4 best design tips for wedding centerpieces

How many tables do I need and what shape are they?

The first consideration when designing centerpieces is to determine how many you need and what types of tables they will be on. Long rectangular tables typically have a runner with several centerpieces placed down the length of the table. Small, usually round, tables for smaller groups of guests will have one main centerpiece.

What’s my budget?

While some brides enjoy the creative DIY process, it can also get pricey if you don’t know where to buy bulk supplies. Working with a vendor will take away the stress of building centerpieces on your own and you’ll know the cost upfront. A typical budget is $30-$60 per each professionally made wedding centerpiece.

How tall should the centerpiece be?

The overall size of the room will help to determine the height of the centerpiece. Small round centerpieces will get lost in a reception hall with tall ceilings. Large full centerpieces will overpower the space in a small venue. Finding the right balance for your reception tables is important.

Here’s a tip: Choosing centerpieces that are “chin height” elevates your guests’ conversations to just the right volume signaling to the room that you are all having a great time! The opposite effect will occur with a tall overhanging centerpiece. It brings a little more intimacy and signals your guests to keep their voices at a lower volume.

What color should I pick for my wedding centerpiece?

By the time you are designing the centerpiece for your reception you should already have a strong sense of the color palette. Your color choices should be consistent with your overall theme. Already have your theme in mind? Check out these centerpiece ideas from the Wedding Wire for a variety of themed centerpieces.

Final touches

When you have your overall wedding theme and concept for the table setting the next step is to determine how to arrange the elements on the table. To keep position on the table anchor the centerpiece with a base like stacked books, a tray, or a piece of wood.

From here you can add just about anything to create your arrangement unique; consider candles, vases, greenery, shells, stones, photos, lanterns, or seasonal fruit and vegetables. Finally, delicate accents can easily bring the look together without over doing it.

Use fuller bouquets to bring weight to a massive venue. Or go light with a few thin stems in a clear vase. Remember the key is balance.
